| The Fort Mifflin Seawall dates back to the 19th century. The national landmark is located along the Delaware River, in the City of Philadelphia, Pa., approximately 1.5 miles south of the confluence of the Schuylkill River and the Delaware River. Over the years, storm-generated waves and other weather factors severely damaged the seawall shielding Old Fort Mifflin from the affects of the Delaware River. The destruction included a large breach, absent wall stones and attrition behind the wall. The project, to restore the sea wall and help save a strategic Revolutionary War Fort, was awarded to the marine divison of A.P. Construction, Inc. The design plan called for placing riprap along the base of the wall; completely reconstructing a portion of the stone masonry wall; repairing parts of the stone masonry wall by grouting and resetting wall stones; excavating and backfilling of sinkholes with "repair sea wall sinkholes". If not restored, the damaged partition would have been ultimately lost and the national landmark would be predisposed to further damage. |
